ephemeral - lasting a very short time
It’s quiet, Šćepan observes. Not too long ago, he had gotten used to the ubiquitous noise. Whether it was from Tatjana singing some song she had heard on the radio, Dražen and Vuk fighting or just the every day loudness that came with all of them being together. For awhile, he had hated it. He hated having to be around everyone since he always felt exhausted by mid-morning, but eventually, he had started liking it.
It was enjoyable for him–knowing that there’d be someone to just be around at any time of the day. Whether it was Janez, half curled on the couch, eyes trained on some book despite it being past midnight or Dražen playing with the camera someone had got him, or Enis snacking in the kitchen. And there was always the low hum of the radio, even now, it still echoes in his mind.
One by one, everyone had left and it’s just him and Vuk now.
